Every SMS sent to a rented number appears in that rental's inbox, newest first, whoever sent it. As with orders, we detect the verification code in each message and highlight it, and the full text is always there.

Reading and getting notified

  • In the web app, open the rental from Rentals to see its inbox.
  • By webhook, each new message sends a rental.message_received event containing the rental and the message. See Webhooks and signature verification.
  • With the API, GET /api/v1/rentals/{id}/messages.

What counts as a message

Anything sent to the number by SMS. There's no per-service filter: if three services text the number, all three messages arrive.

When the rental ends

When a rental expires or you cancel it, the number stops delivering to your inbox and returns to the pool after a cooldown. Messages you already received stay with the rental.

Warning

After a rental ends, its number can eventually be given to someone else. Before it ends, move any account that relies on it to a number you control — or keep auto-renew on.
